Odisha Cricket Association (OCA), an apex body of cricket in the State of Odisha being affiliated to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the official State Level Association as per the provisions of its constitution. The Association functions as per the powers vested with it to control the game of cricket in Odisha. It was registered in the year of 1961 under the Society of Registration Act 1860. Having its office at the historical Barabati Stadium, Cuttack since the time of registration, it came into effect with an aim to develop the game of cricket and cricketing affairs in the state. Gradually it developed its infrastructure and the cricket mechanism operating in various parts of the state. |
The Barabati Stadium, one of the best and beautiful stadiums of international repute has a capacity of approximately 50000 seats and it is always packed to the hilt during International matches, which indicates the craze for cricket in our state. This is the reason why the capacity of Barabati Stadium is progressively increasing the seating capacity taking into account the growing enthusiasm of the spectators. Players’ dressing room is one of the most state of the art dressing rooms in India. The clock tower gives the heritage and different look which attracts spectators. The Barabati Stadium itself is an evidence of the architectural figures of Odisha eliciting praise from all corners of the world and is appreciated universally. Other Infrastructure like Multi-Gym, Rehab Centre, Swimming Pool, Sachin Tendulkar Indoor Hall, Cricket Academy are an integral part of Odisha Cricket Association which is specifically made with the purpose of developing the quality of cricket in Odisha. Utilising these infrastructure Odisha Cricket Association has successfully organized many International matches (Test, ODI & T20), Women’s World Cup, Zonal Cricket Camps and Specialized Camps to name a few.
Looking to the history of Odisha Cricket it started its journey with a first-class match in the year of 1949-50 against Bihar but was defeated by 336 runs where the first ever victory came in the year 1952-53 against Assam. Till 1983-84 Odisha was confined with the boundaries of East Zone and after a gap of 34 years it progressed to the Semi Final for the first time. As of the season 2019-20, Odisha has played 313 Ranji Trophy Matches (Won- 72, Lost- 111, Drawn- 130) so far.
The OCA has been working continuously to its best to upgrade and promote local cricket and to search for local talent throughout the state for the best interest of the game of cricket in the State of Odisha and the rest is the history.
